white pages 1st app. Wolverine on last page; Trimpe c/a. Highest GradedHe's tucked away at the end of the issue, in a small cliffhanger panel, but there he is: the first appearance of the Wolverine. Intended as a gift to Canadian Marvel fans and destined to become the first true superstar of the Copper Age of comics. This issue is a fine example of the consistently high standard of storytelling from Len Wein and Herb Trimpe, who performed unheralded but top-notch work keeping this fan favorite title chugging along during some of the toughest times in the industry's history.
While there are many copies of Hulk #180 to find out there, none are ranked higher than this exemplary example, the book is impeccable, with amazingly bright colors and wonderful centering, the construction is rock solid, and the investment interest is extremely high. Being as this is the true first appearance of Wolverine, the book will certainly see boosts in price once the MCU announces the X-Men’s inclusion in the franchise, again when the casting of the character is revealed, and a third time once the first movie is released. There is no reason not to go out and get a copy of this Bronze Age key before an inevitable rise in value.
