1989 VHS release w/ Diet Coke ad (featuring Michael Gough's Alfred Pennyworth) and Bugs/Daffy 1-900 adFans of this pioneering comic-book movie instantly heard a difference when Batman went to disc. Danny Elfman’s opening theme immediately sounded a lot more tinny. Subsequent releases have never quite brought back the bass on the mono soundtrack. There’s also a lot of love for the commercials that appeared on this original release. Viewers gladly sat through Michael Gough reprising his character of faithful butler Alfred for a Diet Coke ad, plus Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck asking kids to call a 1-900 number (at $1.50 a minute) to order a catalogue of Warner Bros. merchandise.
