Silver Age begins here; origin and 1st app. Flash (Barry Allen) & 1st app Iris West; Comic Book Impact rating of 10 (CBI)

Showcase/i> #4 didn't just introduce the modern version of The Flash. This classic comic (that rarely comes up for auction) is credited with launching the Silver Age of comics that revived an entire industry. The troubling truth is that superheroes had become more of an afterthought in post-war comic books before Julius Schwartz revamped the Fastest Man Alive..

Of course, the DC editor did more than just swipe the Golden Age idea behind the Fastest Man Alive. His daring idea would lead to the notion of multiverses as DC merged their modern heroes and creations of yesterday. Showcase #4 also helped establish the playful DC spirit with a fun tale of our new Flash taking on a revamped version of the Golden Age's Turtle Man.

Today, The Flash remains one of the industry's most beloved characters. There's already much anticipation for the speedster's next big-screen incarnation in the developing DC Extended Universe. Meanwhile, this classic book remains a constant collectible as a hero comic with a heroic place in the comics industry.

This Showcase #4 earned a 3.5 Universal Grade from CGC, with off-white pages. The classic Infantino and Kubert cover is quite well-preserved, with the reds, yellows, and oranges bursting off of the Silver Age Flash who seems to run right through the page. The cover copy, including the title, logo, and CCA stamp, all appear impressively sharp. While there are some telltale signs of this important key’s vintage around the edges of the copy, the overall impact of this issue remains intact. The historic significance of this book cannot be denied, and as such, is always a huge draw at auction.

Overstreet Guide 2022 VG- (3.5) value = $13,650.
