Jim Aparo pencils and inks; cover; 1980; image size 10" x 15"Beautiful Bronze Age beauty that Jim Aparo penciled and inked for the 1980 Detective Comics #496 cover. This awesome battle cover is slightly different from the published comic book because DC decided to switch away from the "Dollar Comics" format (which they started with Detective Comics #481) With this issue, on very short notice, editor Paul Levitz included a text piece in the issue titled "Dept. of Oops" to explain it. What we have here is the original published cover layout before the switch. The cover art was still used, and the original Batgirl art drawn here on this cover stayed on the comic at the top, as she had the backup tale. However, The Robin and Black Lighting drawn art on the left side did not appear on the published comic book because their backup stories got the boot from being produced by DC. If you are a fan of Jim Aparo's long-eared Batman, this is a great LARGE image of Batman in hand to hand/foot combat against Clayface! Pen and ink. Art is in excellent condition. Initialed by Aparo.
The title paste-up is a recreation.
