1st Namor solo series; origin of Namor retold; John Buscema cover & art; story continues from Iron Man & Sub-Mariner #1
Prince Namor — known to surface-dwellers as the Sub-Mariner — first took off as one of the Big Three superheroes introduced by Timely Comics in the Golden Age. Alongside the Human Torch and Captain America, Namor battled the Axis forces in both solo adventures and sometimes as a team. In the process, Timely was launched as a publishing powerhouse that would eventually take on the Marvel mantle.
As part of the Silver Age revival, the always ill-tempered Namor was brought back in the pages of the Fantastic Four's top-selling title. Namor was soon headlining his own book with a premiere issue looking back at his long history. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by John Buscema and Frank Giacoia, Subby’s Silver Age series would run for 72 issues. Namor would also become a favorite character across the Marvel universe, and continues to be one of the most valued characters of both fans and investors.
