Gaines File CopyWhile War Against Crime #10 may look like just another true crime book that was one of the worn-out genres of the post-war comic slump, in fact, it is a truly important key issue that would herald the future of EC Comics by introducing the character of the Vault Keeper and inaugurating the first Vault of Horror tale in the publisher’s output. Stumbling upon the nascent horror genre, EC would go on to great heights of popularity, as well as controversy, and eventual censorship all in part thanks to this landmark issue. The book features a classic Johnny Craig cover design, and contributions from EC stalwart Al Feldstein, who illustrated the “Buried Alive” Vault of Horror story within, this is an important sleeper key of the late Golden Age which is sure to draw the attention of collectors of classic horror comics.
This Gaines File Copy of War Against Crime #10 comes with a COA from the respected pedigree complete with an illustration by Mad Magazine’s Sergio Aragones. The book is in exceptional condition, with nary a mark or imperfection visible to the naked eye. Kept in publisher Bill Gaines’ private collection for decades, this copy appears as though it was never opened or read, and still looks as fresh as the day it was published. The old-school CGC label gives the book an extra level of appeal for the dedicated EC fan out there who won't settle for less.
