Wolverine quickly became the break-out star of the revamped X-Men back in the 1970s. Marvel still took their time in making his inevitable solo debut a true event. Fans were already excited to see beloved X-Men scribe Chris Claremont scripting the spin-off, and then Marvel announced Frank Miller would join the book as penciller and co-plotter — with Miller already in the midst of his own run as the creative force behind a revitalized Daredevil.
This acclaimed first issue includes the 1st appearance of female ninja Yukio, as well as Logan's 1st utterance of, "I'm the best there is at what I do..." The book also sent Wolverine to Japan for a modern-day noir that further liberated the hero from traditional superhero settings. From here, the character would continue an offbeat path that would make Wolverine the inevitable face of serious super-hero cinema.
