Classic L.B. Cole devil cvr! rare issueL.B. Cole is considered a master of the Golden Age comic art form, with his iconic covers for Mask Comics recognized as some of the genre's most iconic art. Cole's work on 1945's Mask #2 is especially gruesome and beautiful. The faces of the damned souls tormented by el Diablo are perfectly realized, as the cartoonish antagonist dominates the action. The image was also guaranteed to make an impression on newsstands--as it has on collectors and investors all these decades later!An appealing copy that sits around halfway up the census, with just over 50 copies registered, any surviving example of this classic will pique the attention of bidders of a certain stripe. Mask #2 is consistently an incredibly popular piece at auction. Cole’s devilish design retains its bright color scheme on this copy, while there are some signs of this book’s vintage around the perimeter, the iconic central figure is in a wonderful state of preservation.
