Showcase/i> #4 didn't just introduce the modern version of The Flash. This classic comic — that rarely comes up for auction — is credited with launching the Silver Age of comics that revived an entire industry. Superheroes had become more of an afterthought in post-war comic books before Julius Schwartz revamped the Fastest Man Alive..

. Of course, DC editor Julius Schwartz did more than just swipe the Golden Age idea behind the Fastest Man Alive. His daring idea would lead to the notion of multiverses as DC merged their modern heroes and creations of yesterday. Showcase #4 also helped establish the DC spirit with a fun tale of our new hero taking on a new version of the Golden Age's Turtle Man.

Today, The Flash remains one of the industry's most beloved characters. There's already much anticipation for the character's next big-screen incarnation. Meanwhile, this classic book remains a constant collectible as a hero comic with a heroic place in the comics industry.

This issue is much tougher to come by than many other Silver Age keys, the low number of unrestored copies certified by CGC makes this one of the rarest and most desirable keys of the 1950s. With a Flash movie on the verge of release, the Scarlet Speedster will be one of the next DC characters tapped for Hollywood stardom, which can only serve to increase the value of this issue. This mid-grade copy presents bright colors, with a clean central focal area, Showcase #4 is a perennial auction fave and a must-have for collectors of SA milestones.

Overstreet Guide 2022 FN (6.0) value = $31,200.
