Paul Reuben's big-screen breakthrough was also a big debut for director Tim Burton. The surreal comedy from 1985 is also a prime example of the importance of preserving physical media. This original VHS was released in the open-matte format, showing viewers much more of Pee-wee's world than was seen in the cropped DVDs and blu-rays. That also preserves two unique bloopers, with VHS viewers seeing the special effects behind Pee-wee's endless bicycle chain, plus the tracks of the "passing" road signs as Pee-wee hits a particularly curvy road.
