This Norwegian printing of Hulk #1 is a perfect example of how bold coloring and dramatic graphics have created a hot new field of foreign-language collectibles. The book is even more valuable as a timeless Marvel classic in any language. Inspired by Jekyll & Hyde and the myth of the Golem, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby kept the Marvel Age running with the big and brutal Hulk. This issue preys on Cold War fears of nuclear annihilation to create one of the most haunting and affecting of hero origins. Initially colored gray in his premiere appearance, the Hulk was quickly reworked into a big green beast when the primitive four-color printing process mangled the character’s color scheme throughout the book. The iconic cover image still resonates with fans to this day.

The Hulk's first solo book didn't last for long, but the brute kept popping up in guest spots before returning to his own title later in the '60s--before becoming a proper TV star in the '70s. The Hulk's return to the big-screen Avengers has continued the lovable brute's reign as one of the comic industry's most reliably collectible characters.
