EC Comics has long been a cult favorite of comic collectors who are on the lookout for something besides the typical superhero fare, renowned for their incredible stories and above-average artwork, EC comics have remained extremely popular items at auction that have been on an upward trajectory for generations. Recognized throughout the collecting community for their indelible effect on the history of comics, EC’s output was an integral factor in the creation of the Comic Code Authority, a censorship body whose sole intention was to protect young minds from the Horror and Romance comics that were big sellers in the moralistic 1950s. But EC didn’t stop there, shifting gears to focus primarily on their humor book, Mad, the publishing house would continue their subversive ways for decades to come by single-handedly launching the satire genre in comics, and influencing the cultural zeitgeist from the 50s through to the 2010s. EC’s amazing and shocking horror covers are a genre unto themselves, inspiring multitudes of copycats and tributes, like the 80’s movie “Creepshow.” Knowledgeable comic fans pay respect to and seek out the amazing and rare treats EC has had to offer since the hobby began.
