Kirby cvr/art; Ditko art; 3rd app. Iron Man
The third appearance of Iron Man still features the lustrous, shiny gold armor that was modified several issues later. The awkward lurching position of Iron Man along with the contrast of the gold against grey-tone background makes the appearance of Iron Man very dramatic. It is easy to understand why this is a favorite cover of many Silver Age Iron Man collectors.

Kirby cvr; Ditko art; origin & 1st app. Iron Man (Tony Stark) (3/63)
Realizing the growing Marvel audience was composed primarily of hip, and largely left-leaning high-school students and collegians, Stan Lee decided to challenge himself to create a hero who would be the embodiment of everything the counterculture was railing against, and still elicit sympathy from readers. Thus, Tony Stark was born, an older, hard drinking, playboy millionaire. Iron Man quickly became a cult favorite whose popularity has only grown over the years.

The origin story of Iron Man is one deeply rooted in the Vietnam War era, Tony Stark, a weapons designer, is brought in to help the U.S. government in their efforts to combat the Vietcong, whose guerilla tactics make the American military approach of bigger and badder seem obsolete in the steamy jungles of Southeast Asia. While conducting a test, Stark is fatally injured by a booby trap, and during his captivity he constructs a suit of armor that slows the approach of a piece of shrapnel towards his heart, and contains an array of gadgets and firepower. Voila, Iron Man is born, and he is ready to do battle with the forces of Communism and other evils around the globe.

Coming in at a solid VF grade, this classic key is in great shape. The comic also features a signature, "Stan Lee '75", written on the cover in pen. Although unverified, it sure looks like the real McCoy. This is one doozy of a collectible SA key.

Kirby cvr/art; 1st app. Ant-Man! (1/62)
This is the great "hidden" success story of Marvel keys -- at nearly every convention we've attended in the past ten years, this book has sold quickly, it ends up on pretty much every want list we get. Even before Marvel's recent reinvention of the character, this was the secret key, rarer than most, and seemingly in huge if subtle demand. Not anymore -- this book has now exploded in desirability and value, thanks both to its scarcity and the sudden resurgence of interest in Ant-Man. The cover of this classic book hearkens back to the sci-fi monster mashes of the 1950s that were popping up like weeds all over the TV dial at the time of this issue's publication. It's likely that Lee and Kirby were trying to cash in on the popularity of giant-bug movies among their adolescent readership, but also retain the flexibility to sneak the anthology title slowly into the superhero realm that would prove to be Marvel's bread and butter before too long. The market price has skyrocketed by approximately 12% in the past year alone.
This copy of TTA #27, featuring Ant-Man's first appearance, is quite stunning with only the smallest amount of wear along the spine preventing this book from attaining a higher grade. This is a handsome, solid example of a very desirable issue, which is sure to jump up in value again once "Ant-Man and the Wasp" hits theaters.

Overstreet Guide 2017 VF (8.0) value = $11,000.

Kirby/Ditko cvr; 1st app. Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy
In the Dutch and Afrikaans language the word "groot" means "large", and the character bearing that name has recently also shared the distinction of becoming large, via the blockbuster film "Guardians of the Galaxy". Life for Groot began in the pages of Tales to Astonish, an imprint that underwent many permutations. Initially envisioned as a bad guy, in this first Groot tale, the "Monarch of Planet X" lands on Earth and quickly begins to absorb wooden objects which cause him to grow in stature, it seems he has designs to take an entire town back to his home world to perform scientific tests, fortunately, he is thwarted by a genetically-modified colony of termites.

Re-imagined in 2006 as a noble, heroic figure, Groot went on to join the second version of the GOTG team along with Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Adam Warlock, Gamora, Quasar and Drax the Destroyer, and soon, would enter the ranks of Marvel's recent box-office bonanza.

Kirby cvr/art; Ditko art; 1st Antman in costume (origin, 2nd app.)
Having established their new character Ant-Man in Tales to Astonish #27, incorporating the 1950s sci-fi/monster template as inspiration, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby overhauled their new concept to match Marvel's rapid takeover of the hero market. With a new origin and costume, it took some time for the results to really click with readers. In hindsight, this second appearance serves as a landmark for the nascent Marvel era, employing the mood, and style of their post-code monster titles to give superhero comics a fresh and compelling new look. Among the silent successes of Marvel Silver Age keys, this issue is surprisingly rare and in great demand as a result. Prices are on the rise, and copies of Tales to Astonish are becoming increasing more difficult to find. The market price of Ant-Man's second appearance has skyrocketed since the character was featured on the big screen in his own origin tale, as well as other MCU releases, and with more Ant-Man appearances making their way to theaters soon, the sky's the limit.

1st printing; white pgs
origin and 1st app. of the TMNT; most valuable comic of the Copper Age!
Anybody who grew up in the 1980s understands the significance of this comic book. It is the Action #1, the Showcase #4 and Amazing Fantasy #15 of the 80s. Self-published by scrappy creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, this book contains the origin stories of the Ninja Turtles and the Splinter, as well as the introduction of Shredder, and the Foot. The moody cover, an homage to Frank Miller's Ronin mini-series, features deep blacks and bloody reds with muscular cross-hatched renditions of our heroes standing ready against the forces of evil. Eastman and Laird's characters were soon to be toned down and made more child-friendly, but in these early books, they pulled no punches on the way to devouring their beloved pizza pies. A Copper Age classic, not many comics can be referred to as that, but this particular issue, one which gave rise to numerous films, cartoons, video games and the like, has truly earned those accolades. This book is notoriously difficult to find in such good condition, the black motif displays creases and dimples as easily as light covers show dirt and stains. With a sequel to the latest iteration of TMNT released upon the world the time is nigh to grab your own copy before the price begins to climb once again.
