Pg. 11; Neal Adams pencils, Dick Giordano and Vince Colletta inks; image size 10" x 15"
"But Bork Can Hurt You!" Neal Adams is one of the most recognizable names in comic book history. The artist's revolutionary take on Batman and his immense impact on the style of Silver Age comics resonate into the modern day. Here we can see his take on the Flash, a character who was fleshed out by the dynamic Carmine Infantino, whose indelible stamp was left on the speedy hero. Taking his cue from Infantino, Adams brings his penchant for realism and adds in a little extra muscle on this spectacular page from Brave and the Bold #81, which shows the Sultan of Zoom speeding around the world in search of his quarry, the invulnerable Bork, in a quest that will eventually lead him to the Sun itself.

Pgs. 2-3; Bryan Hitch pencils, Jackson Guice inks and signed; image size 20.5" x 16"
This double-page splash from issue #5 of Captain America: Reborn takes place during Steve Rogers' captivity within his own mind, frozen in space and time, he bounces around his personal history, reliving important moments from his exploits from his service in WWII to the current day. On these pages, Captain America finds himself in New York City in an alternate timeline where the Nazis won the war and the Red Skull is now the face of the Axis leadership. The pencils by Bryan Hitch and inks by Jackson Guice are dark and moody, and the panel construction gives the viewer a sense of being trapped in a maze. Hitch is one of the most popular and in-demand artists of the Modern Age, contributing to a vast amount of titles for a slew of publishing houses, and it is apparent on this page why his work is so popular, his sense of design and skillful linework are perfectly complemented by Guice's forceful inks and equally storied career in the industry. This splash page is definitely a modern piece that holds an important place in the history of the First Avenger and the Marvel Universe's continuing story arc.

Frank Frazetta pen, ink, and signed; 1964; image size 7" x 10; comes beautifully matted
Unpublished original illustration for a Canaveral plate, with a revised version eventually running in the final publication. The "Bill" in the signature is Wally Wood's associate Bill Pearson, who followed Wood as publisher of legendary zine Witzend and wrote and edited for Warren and Charlton.

Frank Frazetta is the master of fantasy art. Revered by his peers and fans alike, much like Stanley Kubrick is to film or The Beatles are to pop music, Frazetta is the definitive apex of his milieu. His trademark style, at once powerful and graceful, is on full display in this unpublished artwork intended for Canaveral Press' Pellucidar series, based on the writings of Edgar Rice Burroughs. This stunning, deceptively simple yet intricately detailed illustration hails from a collection that is universally accepted as some of Frazetta's greatest pen and ink work. The Canaveral ERB pieces are exquisite examples of the lasting impact Frazetta has made upon the world of fantasy and sci-fi art. The image of two powerful beings sizing each other up leaves an indelible imprint on the mind of the viewer, one is unsure if the confrontation is about to become violent or if a meaningful conversation is about to take place.

Any fan of comic or fantasy art would be thrilled to own a piece by the legendary Frank Frazetta, and this special work is guaranteed to be a highlight of this Event Auction. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a masterwork by Frazetta, don't pass it up. Art is signed with the iconic Frank Frazetta imprint.

Adam Hughes pencils and inks; image size 13.5" x 22"
Holy Original Bat Art! When DC editor Julius "Julie" Schwartz passed away in 2004, the renowned publishing house decided to put out a collection of eight one-shot comics to memorialize the beloved progenitor of the Silver Age. This is the beautifully illustrated cover of one of these popular issues, rendered with great skill by artist Adam Hughes, on a scale much larger than typical cover art, the book features satires of two Schwartz-commissioned Batman stories from the 50s and 60s, which pay tribute to Julie and his particular sense of humor. Legend has it, Schwartz was known for ordering stories based on cover art, and directing writers to craft tales to fit the proposed concepts, flipping the usual industry conventions on their head.

This is a special piece that honors a legendary figure in the comic world, while simultaneously paying homage to the classic Batman #183 cover by Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella.

Pg. 4; Carmine Infantino pencils, Joe Giella inks; image size 10" x 15.25"
Carmine Infantino and Joe Giella collaborated on "Batman of Two Worlds" from DC Comics Presents: Batman #1, the comic was one of eight one-offs published in tribute to beloved DC Editor Julius "Julie" Schwartz after his passing in 2004. The plot involves the Dynamic Duo investigating a murder involving two actors that portray Batman and Robin on television, which turns out to be a hoax perpetrated by the dastardly Clayface to lure the superheroes into his clutches. The throwback style employed is a sly inside joke by Infantino and Giella who originally illustrated the cover to Batman #183, which was the inspiration for this book's cover. The two industry veterans do a bang up job showcasing the tried-and-true skills that they honed over the decades to pay homage to their friend in this interesting page from a special comic in the DC catalog.

Pg. 4; Bob Kane pencils, Charles Paris inks; image size 12.75" x 18"
"The Black Cat Crimes!" Much like Batman had his Batmobile, Catwoman had her Kitty Car, and this page, drawn by Bob Kane, puts that villainous vehicle on full display. The story "The Black Cat Crimes" involves Catwoman's scheme to invoke the old superstition about black cats crossing one's path to extort money from a group of wealthy Gothamites. The plot ends up with the Dynamic Duo chasing her through the city, allowing these sleek super speedsters to dominate the action in these panels.

Golden Age pages are scarce in general and early Detective pages are particularly difficult to come by, as anything related to the Caped Crusader is regularly snapped up by his rabid fan base and kept in personal collections for years. Finding such a dynamic page, with classic illustrations by Batman's co-creator, featuring one of the most popular villains of the DC stable is no small feat, and we expect our customers will respond with feverish bidding at auction.
